Liverpool are reportedly looking to sign Khephren Thuram, a target for Newcastle United, from OGC Nice this summer.

According to a report from Football Transfers, Khephren Thuram is a target for Premier League rivals Newcastle United as well. But Liverpool have now opened advanced talks to sign the 22-year-old Frenchman this summer.

Thuram has been a key player for Nice and he could prove to be a solid long-term investment for Liverpool. The Reds need to bring in central midfield reinforcements, and Thuram seems like the ideal acquisition. He will add defensive quality, drive and physicality to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.

The 22-year-old midfielder could be the ideal replacement for someone like James Milner. He can operate as a central midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder. He has the potential to develop into a top-class player. And working with a manager like Klopp could help him fulfil his tremendous potential.

Liverpool cannot compete with Newcastle in terms of financial resources, and the Magpies can offer him Champions League football as well. It will be interesting to see how the Reds convince the midfielder to join them instead. But Newcastle United’s interest in him makes sense.

Liverpool will Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as free agents next month, and they need to bring in players to replace them adequately. Apart from Thuram, they have been linked with players like Manu Kone and Alexis Mac Allister.

The Reds have been linked with Jude Bellingham in recent months as well. But the England international is reportedly heading to Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Thuram will be excited about the prospect of playing in the Premier League. And the opportunity to join a big club like Liverpool will be a tempting proposition for him.

It remains to be seen whether Nice are prepared to sell the midfielder for a reasonable price in the coming weeks. Liverpool must look to sort out their midfield problems if they want to get back into the top four and challenge for the league title once again. The Reds are now in advanced talks to land the youngster.

The midfield has been their undoing this season and they cannot afford to take any risks when it comes to signings. Thuram has the physicality and technical attributes to succeed in English football and he could be an ideal fit for Klopp’s high-intensity pressing football. But with Newcastle also in the hunt, it will be interesting to see who wins the race to sign him.
