Report: £154,000-a-week player doesn’t want to join Arsenal or Newcastle

Ferland Mendy has been linked with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United, but the left-back wants to stay at Real Madrid.

Sport reported in May that Arsenal are willing to pay €20 million (£17.5 million) to sign Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Los Blancos themselves are willing to sell the 27-year-old France international left-back and have told his entourage that the defender will not get a new contract.

TEAMtalk reported this week that Newcastle United are showing interest in the £154,000-a-week (SalarySport) defender and are taking a close look into the possibility of securing his services in the summer of 2023.

The Athletic are now reporting that although Mendy is on the market, “his entourage has said he wants to stay” at Madrid.

Ferland Mendy to Arsenal or Newcastle United could happen

In our view, Arsenal or Newcastle United could be able to sign Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Now, the defender himself may want to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, but if Madrid want him gone, then it is hard to see the France international at the club next season.

Both Arsenal and Newcastle are massive clubs and will play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Arsenal almost won the Premier League title this season, while Newcastle are going places.

So, leaving Madrid for the Gunners or the Magpies would not be a bad move for Mendy, who is 27 and has his best years ahead of him.
