Newcastle are ‘confident’ of beating West Ham to Arsenal star Kieran Tierney and Amazon documentary may explain why.

West Ham and Newcastle United have both been linked with a move for Arsenal star Kieran Tierney in the summer transfer window.

A couple of months ago 90 Min claimed West Ham boss David Moyes wants to sign Arsenal’s back-up left-back, who turns 26 on Monday.

But Eddie Howe also wants to bring him to Newcastle according to reports.

Tierney has hardly had a look in since Arsenal signed Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer.

It is clear to see why both West Ham and Newcastle are prioritising the addition of a top-class left-back in the forthcoming transfer window.

The Hammers have ageing Aaron Cresswell winding down on his career and Emerson proving somewhat hit and miss.

The Magpies have Matt Targett and Jamal Lewis as options. So clearly they need to drastically improve on that after qualifying for the Champions League.

Hammers News reported on claims that Mikel Arteta has told Tierney he can leave Arsenal this summer with West Ham, Newcastle and Aston Villa interested.

Now Newcastle are ‘confident’ of beating West Ham to Arsenal star Tierney and Amazon documentary may explain why.

According to The Sun and The Mail, Newcastle are set to make a bid to sign Tierney and sources close to the player believe a move up north is increasingly likely.

That’s clearly bad news for West Ham’s hopes. But was the reason for that revealed in the All Or Nothing Amazon documentary on the Gunners?

In the documentary, Tierney revealed that he struggled mentally after moving to London and suffered from homesickness.

“It was hard to start with, I was really struggling. Really low point,” Tierney said in the documentary.

“Homesickness was terrible to start with. Outside training you had a lot of time to think. I’m not saying I was ever in a bad, bad place where I was suicidal.”

Should he sign for Newcastle, Tierney would be just two and a half hours from Glasgow.

But joining West Ham would not solve that particular issue as he would be still be six and a half hours from home.

A fee of £30m has been floated in reports but that seems somewhat extreme and another reason Newcastle would likely beat West Ham to his signature.
