Report: Tottenham are facing problems in their pursuit of ‘incredible’ player

Tottenham Hotspur want to sign James Maddison but their managerial situation is hampering a summer move.

Tottenham Hotspur’s lack of managerial direction means they could end up missing out on James Maddison.

That is according to The Mirror (04/06, p77), who report that Spurs are keen to bring Maddison to North London.

However, it’s hard for Maddison to commit to Tottenham right now given their lack of organisational structure.

Tottenham don’t have a manager yet and still haven’t landed a new director of football to replace Fabio Paratici either.

Until Tottenham sort themselves out, it’s difficult to see top players like Maddison making the decision to join the club.

That means Tottenham are in real danger of missing out on Maddison with Newcastle United also interested.

The Magpies chased Maddison last summer and are ready to enter the race again following Leicester’s relegation to the Championship.

Tottenham should make movement this week amid James Maddison interest

Tottenham have been linked with Maddison for years now, even going back to his time at Coventry City and Norwich City.

This is the type of signing Tottenham really need right now.

Spurs just don’t have that midfield creator who can unpick a defence and make things happen going forward.

Maddison – hailed as ‘incredible’ by Andriy Shevchenko – has the guile that Tottenham need and his status as a homegrown player is very appealing too.

We’re now expecting Tottenham to get their house in order soon, potentially enabling them to move for Maddison.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has become the top target for Spurs as they chase a new manager.

The Australian loves to play attacking football and having utilised a playmaker like Matt O’Riley at Celtic, Maddison could fit a similar mould.

Spurs could also land their new director of football soon with Bild reporter Tobi Altschaffl reporting that Tottenham have made contact to land Bayern Munich’s Marco Neppe.

Tottenham could move for Postecoglou and Neppe as their new decision-makers for the future – and that’s a combination that may just appeal to Maddison.
