West Ham United: Chris Sutton shares David Moyes ‘criticism’ verdict in Newcastle prediction

West Ham United’s four-match unbeaten run in the Premier League will come to an end against Newcastle United on Saturday 30 March, according to Chris Sutton.

The BBC Sport pundit doesn’t believe that David Moyes’ side will be able to return from the international break with three points at St James’ Park, predicting that Eddie Howe’s team will claim all three points with a 2-1 win.

Newcastle have struggled for consistency in recent weeks and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester City last time out, but Sutton believes they’ll get back to winning ways as speculation continues to surround Moyes.

Writing in his BBC Sport Premier League predictions (28 March) he said: “Newcastle’s hopes of a trophy ended when they were knocked out of the FA Cup before the international break so it feels like a big end to the season for their manager Eddie Howe, starting now.

“The same applies to West Ham boss David Moyes too, because there has been plenty of speculation about his future too, as well as criticism from fans.

“But the Hammers are still in Europe, with a Europa League quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen to look forward to, while Newcastle’s campaign has unravelled a bit in the past few weeks.

“While Howe’s side have not been as strong defensively this season, I still always feel they have a goal in them. That’s why I reckon they will edge this.”

Will David Moyes sign a new West Ham United contract?

Pressure has been surrounding Moyes at the London Stadium for a number of months now, but the Scotsman has repeatedly managed to fight back to win over sections of the fanbase with some important wins.

Suggestions behind the scenes indicate that the Irons boss is set to extend his stay beyond the end of the season, however, a lot can change in the final weeks of the season and the Irons need to finish the campaign strongly.

West Ham
David Moyes has found himself under increasing pressure at West Ham United.

Newcastle are by no means an easy side to play against as they have plenty of quality across their squad, but their current injury woes mean that the Hammers have to be confident in securing all three points.

Hopefully, Moyes’ side can do one better than Sutton’s prediction and bring at least a point back from St James’ Park as that would set them up excellently for the remainder of the Championship season.
