Newcastle United scouts have attended recent Chelsea games as they bid to nail down their summer transfer window shortlist, according to the Chronicle.

The Magpies are looking to strengthen Eddie Howe’s squad over the course of the summer after the boss paid the price for a lack of depth in key areas over the course of this term.

Newcastle struggled with injuries and balancing the demands of domestic football with Champions League football.

They have managed to reduce a longlist of targets down to a shortlist, but the club still have not identified the primary target for each wanted position.

In a bid to progress that work, Newcastle scouts have been at recent games involving Chelsea.

The Blues are likely to need to offload players quickly this summer to comply with the Premier League’s PSR rules.

Newcastle have their own concerns about staying on the right side of PSR rules, but are expected to be active in the market.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is one player who could be targeted by Newcastle, with the Blues likely to consider cashing in on him.
