Tottenham stars will be sold by Postecoglou if they flop at Hotspur Way – pundit

Newcastle United will not secure a top-five Premier League finish this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie claimed that the Magpies will not be able to catch Tottenham.

The verdict comes despite Eddie Howe’s side thumping Spurs 4-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday (13 April).

The North London club currently sit fifth place in the league table with 60 points, 10 points ahead of Newcastle in sixth.

McAvennie also suggested that Spurs have what it takes to immediately bounce back from the humiliation on Tyneside.

Ange Postecoglou’s side host North London rivals Arsenal up next, with Howe’s men taking on Crystal Palace.

“I don’t see it happening,” he told Football Insider. “And I think Spurs will come out and bounce back immediately because Postecoglou doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

“If the players are not doing it on the training ground at Hotspur Way, they won’t be there very long and will be sold, I know that.”

Both Newcastle and Spurs have played 32 league matches this season, with the former level on 50 points with Man United in seventh.

Newcastle

The latter meanwhile are chasing a Champions League spot, and are currently three points behind Aston Villa in fourth, while they have a game in hand over the Midlands club.
