Report: Newcastle are ‘stepping up’ their pursuit of alleged Spurs target

Tottenham Hotspur are going to have to beat Newcastle United to the signature of Lloyd Kelly, as the Magpies are ramping up their interest in the Bournemouth man, who is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Speculation surrounding Lloyd Kelly‘s future has been rampant for months now, given the defender’s reluctance to commit to a new contract with Bournemouth.

Spurs have been one of the clubs linked with the centre-half throughout, and Football Insider suggested the Lilywhites were preparing an approach for the 25-year-old ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

However, the Lilywhites are far from the only club interested in Kelly. Apparently, Juventus, Liverpool, and AC Milan are all keen, too, while Newcastle have been tipped as the ones to beat in the race to sign the Englishman (HITC).

Newcastle are putting in the work to sign Lloyd Kelly

The Magpies are only strengthening their hand as time goes on, it seems, as the latest from HITC suggests Eddie Howe’s side are upping the ante and really gunning for the signing as we approach the conclusion of the current campaign.

With Newcastle losing the likes of Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman to long-term injuries this season, the Premier League side are eager to bolster their ranks, and see the free transfer of Kelly as the ideal solution.

Newcastle are now “stepping up their interest” in the Bournemouth man, who previously worked with Howe when the manager was in charge of the Cherries.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can definitely see us looking at signing a centre-half on a free transfer this summer. Given the fact we have three strong options there already, it would make sense for us to find a bargain in that area and save our money for other positions. If this is the case, I’d like us to really challenge for Kelly.
