Newcastle United next manager: Wyness can’t believe Eddie Howe sack latest

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted any calls for Newcastle United to sack Eddie Howe are “ridiculous”.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – accused some fans of having a “very short memory” – with the club in “turmoil only recently”.

Newcastle have struggled to recapture their form from the 2022-23 campaign with injury and suspension hitting Howe’s side hard this term.

But this season, the English boss has faced several questions over his long-term future at St James’ Park from fans and pundits alike.

However, after a recent upturn in form, Newcastle sit sixth in the Premier League table and could qualify for European football next term.

Newcastle sack claims are ‘ridiculous’, says Wyness

Howe was appointed in November 2021 following the Saudi-backed takeover and has won 57% of his 119 games in charge.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I can tell you this, there is no doubt that he absolutely needs more time.

“It’s ridiculous to be calling for his head, he’s done a superb job.

“The game against Spurs, Newcastle were superb.

“They have been hit by injury after injury this season but they’ve still managed to get some superb results.
