Newcastle United are finalizing their search for a new sporting director, with final interviews set to take place soon according to reports.

The recruitment process is being led by international firm Odgers Berndtson. Leading the search for Newcastle are Odgers’ specialists Euan Frizzell and Simon Cummins, alongside interviews conducted with representatives from PIF, PCP Capital Partners, and Newcastle club executives.

The candidates in contention for the top role, according to reports, include Paul Mitchell (former sporting director at Monaco), Rui Pedro Braz (Benfica), and Tiago Pinto (previously with Roma).

These individuals have undergone up to three interviews thus far. The final stage of the selection process will involve a meeting with Newcastle’s club chairman, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who will come up with the ultimate man and hire him, then appoint him to lead the sporting director role at NUFC.

Once this appointment is finalized, Newcastle is expected to re-enter negotiations with Manchester United regarding a compensation package for Dan Ashworth, who is set to move to Old Trafford and is currently on gardening leave.

The decision on the new sporting director is expected to streamline these negotiations significantly but no date has been leaked with regards to when the hiring of a new director or the sale of Ashworth will be completed.
