Newcastle United delivered a commanding performance on Saturday dmolishing Sheffield United 5-1 and sending their foes packing down to the Championship inside the comfortable confines of St James’ Park.

Despite an early surprise by way of Sheff Utd’s Anel Ahmedhodzic heading his team ahead in the fifth minute, Newcastle overturned the deficit and took control of the game on their way to finishing the two games against the Blades with a ridiculous 13-1 combined outcome.

Alexander Isak was the man of the minute, as is seemingly always the case of late, scoring a brace and bringing his season’s tally in the Premier League to 19 goals.

Keeping in style with pricing himself out of Tyneside, Bruno headed in a free-kick from Anthony Gordon after 54 minutes, making it even more clear to whoever wants to sign him that his clause might jump from €100 million to €1 billion on July 1.

The Magpies were simply too much and overly dominant. They continued to punish the Blades for the full 90 and Isak converted a penalty making it 3-1 before Ben Osborn inadvertently back-heeled the ball into his own net, followed by Callum Wilson scoring the fifth and final goal in a promising return to his best self after spending time nursing an(other) injury.

Newcastle bagged three more important points for their hopes at finishing the season in the top-7 and took advantage of Man Utd’s (in 6th) and West Ham (in 8th) draws to cut the distance with the former and pad the gap with th latter.

There are just four games remaining on Newcastle’s schedule and one of them will be played on May 15 against the Red Devils in a contest that could very well define who finish in sixth and who drops to seventh.

Before that, however, the Magpies will face Burnley and Brighton while Man Utd go against Crystal Palace and Arsenal.
