Newcastle United make moves to sign two free agents – sources

Newcastle United are working on multiple centre-back deals ahead of the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Magpies have already registered their interest in signing Bournemouth star Lloyd Kelly, 25, and Fulham ace Tosin Adarabioyo in the off-season.

Both players have rejected contract extension offers at their respective clubs and will leave this summer to become free agents.

Newcastle are keen to bolster their defensive options following an injury-hit 2023-24 campaign but it is believed they will face strong competition for both Kelly and Adarabioyo from elite Premier League sides.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Eddie Howe is prioritising the capture of a proven top-flight defender in the summer window.

Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are both out with serious knee injuries, while Fabian Schar will miss the rest of this season with a hamstring problem.

Kelly has made 23 appearances across all competitions for Bournemouth in the 2023-24 campaign, with 18 of those outings coming as part of the starting eleven.

He was brought to the south coast by now-Newcastle boss Howe in July 2019.

Meanwhile, Adarabioyo has made 25 appearances for Fulham this term – 22 of which have been as a starter.
