Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson "stepped aside" to allow Alexander Isak take the ill-fated spot-kick at Turf Moor on Saturday.
The number 9 was the designated penalty taker on the day but offered Isak the chance to continue his run of spot-kicks after scoring eight in a row since signing for Newcastle. But unlike his confident dispatch against Burnley in the 2-0 home win, when he slotted it to the right, he opted to put it in the other corner and Arijanet Muric guessed the right way to deny him.
Howe said: "Callum wanted to take the penalty, naturally, because he's hungry for goals. But Alex has been our penalty taker and taken them very well up until then. So Callum was very gracious and stepped aside to let Alex take it."

Wilson still took his tally to 10 goals for the season after scoring at Turf Moor in the 4-1 win and Howe was delighted with his number 9. After three games back from a chest injury, Howe feels the striker is getting close to full fitness.
Howe said: "The benefit of this injury was it was upper body not lower so he could really work on his lower strength, he did a lot of basic running, so when he came back he was fit and strong. You could see at Burnley with his pace, it was really good."
