Kieran Trippier sends ‘amazing’ Newcastle message, Harry Maguire responds
Newcastle United made history at Wembley Stadium on Sunday (16 March) by defeating Liverpool to win the EFL Cup.
The Magpies were able to lift their first silverware since the 1955 FA Cup, with Eddie Howe’s side dominating the final against the current Premier League leaders.
Dan Burn put Eddie Howe’s team ahead in the first half before Alexander Isak extended the lead in the second half, with Liverpool struggling to respond.
Federico Chiesa did manage to place some late stress on the Magpies by scoring in the 94th minute, but it was too little, too late for Arne Slot’s men.
The victory was the latest step forward in Newcastle’s transformation in recent years, with the club aiming to be more competitive at this level.
The Magpies will be back in action on 2 April when they face Brentford in the Premier League.
Kieran Trippier reflects on a dream come true
Kieran Trippier had a significant role to play in the game as he started due to Lewis Hall’s season coming to an end via a foot injury and he reminded everyone what he’s capable of.
He picked up his first assist of the season in the final as the right-back looked to influence the game, and he celebrated the result on Instagram afterward.

He said, “The day we have all dreamed of. Lifting silverware with @nufc and now Carabao Cup champions. This one’s for everyone who’s supported us. I hope you had an amazing day.”

Kieran Trippier’s long-term future is unclear
The 34-year-old rolled back the years at Wembley Stadium and looked perfectly comfortable playing at that level, but there has been a lot of speculation about his long-term future at Newcastle lately.
The former England international is out of contract at St James’ Park in 2026, meaning the upcoming transfer window could be Newcastle’s final opportunity to cash in on him.
Galatasaray were linked with a move for Trippier in January, and he could end up moving on in a bid for more regular game time at the end of the season.
