Jacob Murphy finally ‘wakes up’ as Newcastle party ends
Newcastle United lifted the first major silverware of the season on Sunday (16 March) and Jacob Murphy is still celebrating it and the history the squad created.
Dan Burn put the Magpies ahead just before the halftime whistle, while Alexander Isak extended that lead just minutes into the second half as they continued to dominate.
Liverpool were kept quiet by and large, although Federico Chiesa scored his second-ever goal for the club in the 94th minute to give the Reds a little false hope.
Eddie Howe’s men ultimately stood firm against the late test that Liverpool provided, with the fanbase being in party mode ever since.
The 47-year-old will now focus on guiding the squad back into the Champions League during the remaining Premier League matches this season.
Newcastle’s fate is in their own hands as they would overtake Man City and Chelsea by winning their game in hand, with the pressure being firmly on the Magpies.

Jacob Murphy has only just woke up
Newcastle made history at Wembley Stadium, bringing an end to supporters’ long wait for silverware at the football club.
This was Newcastle’s first trophy since the 1955 FA Cup, with the current squad ensuring they go down in the history books.
Murphy took to Instagram today in a bid to remind everyone what they achieved by saying, “When you wake up and realise 70 years no more!”

Eddie Howe could move on after the EFL Cup win
Howe has enjoyed plenty of success during his time at St James’ Park, but his next role appears to already be identified in the form of the England job.
He is already being heavily touted as the eventual successor of current boss Thomas Tuchel by BBC chief football writer Phil McNulty.

Howe was a name who had been mentioned to possibly replace Gareth Southgate in the first place, but after adding a trophy to his name there are a lot more pundits showering him with praise.
